Location: Ocean City, MD
Size: 800 Square Feet
Completed: April 2019
The Aloft Hotel in Ocean City is the first ever resort Aloft has constructed. In order to maximize their usable space, Iott Architecture & Engineering specified permeable pavements in order to meet Environmental Site Design requirements. The hotel is located along Coastal Highway, close to the Atlantic Ocean. Due the high ground water table caused by the proximity to the ocean, a traditional permeable paver section was not appropriate. The engineer, general contractor and site contractor needed a solution to minimize impervious surfaces, maximize usable space and not impact the groundwater table.
Goody Hill Groundwork, Inc., the site site contractor, installed approximately 800 square feet of permeable pavement around the pool deck of the hotel. Iott specified PaverGuide as the base for the permeable pavement in order to minimize excavation. Goody Hill was able to install the entire permeable pavement section without impacting the high ground water table and provide the project owner, Blue Water Development with a very attractive and functional stormwater feature that doubles as a pool deck.
Goody Hill, Iott, and Blue Water Development were all pleased with the solution and look forward to installing PaverGuide in future projects.
