Residential Driveway in Worton, MD - PaverGuide - Permeable Pavement

About Project

Location: Worton, MD

Size: 4000 Square Feet

Completed: January 2017

The homeowner in Worton, MD was looking to install a permeable paver driveway to replace his existing concrete driveway.  The challenge in Worton is the proximity to the Chesapeake Bay and the environmental sensitivity of the area. Any solution would require minimizing the environmental impact of the  project. In order to minimize impact, the homeowner wanted to reduce excavation, reduce the use of non-renewable materials, and utilize environmentally sensitive products.

Stuart Contractors, LLC from Chester, MD removed the existing driveway and installed a permeable paver driveway using PaverGuide as the base and storage reservoir.  PaverGuide was installed over 2-inches of ASTM D448 #8 stone. The surface is Pine Hall Brick “StormPave” paver.

Jared Stuart is currently building a home. Jared stated, ”I am going to use PaverGuide at my own house. I think it is a very good idea. I have installed permeable pavement on open graded aggregate and there is no way to stop the settling of the stone, with PaverGuide I install a minimal amount of #8 stone base below the rigid PaverGuide product and eliminate the settlement issues.”

The result of utilizing the 100% recycled plastic PaverGuide system reduced approximately 250 tons of non-renewable stone aggregate, reduced excavation by more than 7 inches, reduced labor costs and ultimately was a less expensive project for the homeowner.

Over two years after completion, the permeable pavement driveway remains  without any significant ruts, holes, or displaced pavers. With routine maintenance, the homeowner continues to enjoy a puddle free driveway and enjoys knowing he has eliminated all stormwater runoff to the Chesapeake Bay from his driveway.
